Building Smarter Business Budgets Since 2019

We started because too many Australian business owners were drowning in spreadsheets that didn't make sense. Six years later, we're still here—helping people understand where their money actually goes.

How We Got Started

Back in 2019, Rhiannon Pembroke was running a small consulting practice out of Wollongong. She kept meeting business owners who had the same problem: they knew they were making money, but couldn't figure out why they always felt broke.

The issue wasn't complicated. Most people were using budget templates designed for big companies with accounting departments. What small businesses needed was something that actually fit how they operated—simple tracking, realistic categories, and advice that didn't require a finance degree.

So we built something different. Not flashy software or complex systems. Just straightforward training that helps people set up budgets they'll actually use.

What Guides Our Work

Keep It Real

Business finance doesn't need to be mysterious. We explain things the way you'd talk to a friend over coffee—straightforward, no jargon, and definitely no pretending things are simpler than they are.

Practical First

Theory is fine, but we focus on what you can actually do next Tuesday. Every course includes templates you can customize and steps you can start implementing right away.

Honest About Limits

Good budgeting helps you make better decisions. It won't magically fix cash flow problems or turn a struggling business around overnight. We're upfront about what it can and can't do.

What We Actually Know About

Our courses focus on the specific challenges small Australian businesses face. Not abstract concepts, but the real stuff you deal with every week.

Financial planning and analysis

Seasonal Business Cash Flow

When your income swings wildly between busy and quiet months, standard budgeting advice falls apart. We help you plan for those gaps without keeping six months of expenses sitting idle.

GST and Tax Planning

You need to set aside money for BAS, but how much depends on your specific situation. We walk through the calculations so you're not scrambling every quarter.

Growth vs. Survival Mode

Sometimes you're investing for growth. Other times you're just trying to make it through a tough patch. Your budget should reflect which mode you're in—and when it's time to switch.

Rhiannon Pembroke

Founder & Lead Instructor

Rhiannon spent twelve years working with small businesses before starting ventothatulo. She's not an accountant—which turns out to be helpful when explaining finance concepts to people who aren't accountants either. She lives in Wollongong with two very demanding cats and a garden that's mostly weeds despite her best efforts. When she's not teaching budget courses, she's probably trying to fix her own messy spreadsheets.
